The Naas Racecourse workshop
We brought around 40 of the most influential people in racing and equestrian sport into one room to ask harder questions about welfare — and not only did they stay for the uncomfortable parts, most told us they wanted to do it again - soon.
Trainers sat alongside vets, regulators, welfare scientists, administrators and grassroots practitioners from Ireland, Northern Ireland and Britain. Held under the Chatham House Rule and built around our Horse Welfare 12 framework, the day wasn’t about handing out answers. It was about giving an industry the tools to find its own.

Where there’s a willingness, there’s a way
Reporting first-hand from Naas, The Irish Field described the workshop as quietly significant — a rare gathering of decision-makers willing to question familiar assumptions and stay in the conversation when it got uncomfortable. The piece explores how HW12’s systems thinking reveals the rules, incentives and traditions behind a welfare outcome, and why translating that into action is the work now beginning under the Changing Rein consultancy.
